The Range

The Right Bar
For Every Lift.

Phoenix supplies commercial barbells and specialty bars for strength training, powerlifting, Olympic lifting, and functional fitness. Every bar in the range is specced for commercial use — not consumer training.

🏋

20kg Olympic Barbell

28.5mm · 2200mm · 500kg+ Rated

The daily driver. Multi-directional knurling, IWF-spec 50mm sleeves, medium-aggressive centre knurl. Built for squats, deadlifts, bench, rows, and Olympic lifting. This is the bar that goes into commercial facilities and stays there for years.

💪

15kg Women's Olympic Barbell

25mm · 2010mm · 350kg+ Rated

Shorter shaft, narrower diameter, IWF-spec sleeves. The correct bar for women's Olympic lifting programming — not a scaled-down version of the men's bar. Proper spec, proper grip, proper balance.

Safety Squat Bar (SSB)

Cambered · Padded Yoke · 250kg Rated

Cambered shaft with padded shoulder yoke and handles. Reduces shoulder and elbow stress on the squat. Essential in a commercial facility for athletes with mobility restrictions or injury history. Builds quad strength that carries over to the straight bar.

🔨

Hex / Trap Bar

Dual Handle · High + Low · 500kg Rated

High and low handle positions. Dual loading horns. The hex bar deadlift is now a staple in high-performance S&C programs for a reason — it loads the pattern without the spinal compression of a straight bar pull. Non-negotiable in a fully equipped facility.

🏂

Swiss / Multi-Grip Bar

Neutral Grip · 5 Handle Positions · 250kg Rated

Neutral and angled grip positions for pressing, rows, and curls. Eliminates forearm pronation — immediately reduces elbow and shoulder pain on bench press for athletes with existing issues. Adds variation on rowing patterns.

🏋

EZ / Curl Bar

Cambered · 28mm Grip · 100kg Rated

Cambered shaft for supinated and pronated curling and tricep work. Reduces wrist strain on bicep curls versus straight bar. A standard in any facility that programs arm hypertrophy. Pairs with the Olympic barbell for a complete upper body free weight setup.

Why The Bar Matters

A Bad Bar
Ruins Good
Programming.

A barbell with loose sleeves undermines the lifter's confidence before the bar leaves the floor. A shaft with the wrong knurl pattern causes grip failure at the wrong moment. A bar without proper tensile strength develops whip that throws athletes off on heavy pulls.

Most cheap barbells sold in Australia are sourced from the same low-grade Chinese manufacturers and rebranded. They look identical. They aren't. The difference shows at 90% of 1RM — which is exactly where it matters most.

  • Loose sleeves rattle and shift weight distribution during the lift
  • Shallow or worn knurl loses grip on chalk — especially on deadlift and Olympic work
  • Low-tensile shafts develop permanent bend under repeated heavy loading
  • Bush bearings (not needle bearings) don't spin freely — critical flaw for Olympic lifting
  • Incorrect shaft diameter means your plates don't fit correctly on competition-spec bars

Who We Supply

Any Program That
Takes The Barbell Seriously.

🏋
Commercial Gyms

24/7 facilities need bars that survive daily heavy use. Phoenix commercial barbells are rated for exactly that — multiple daily sessions, year on year, without performance degradation.

🧦
Defence & Military

ADF and operational fitness programs run high volumes of barbell training. Phoenix bars have supplied ADF facilities and the Phoenix MTG — both demand bars that don't fail.

🏈
Elite Sport

High-performance S&C rooms at professional sporting organisations demand correct spec on every bar in the rack. Phoenix supplies to programs where the barbell is a daily tool, not occasional equipment.

FIFO & Remote Sites

Remote environments demand equipment that doesn't corrode, doesn't develop play in the sleeves, and doesn't require maintenance attention. Hard chrome Phoenix bars are the correct choice.

🏫
Schools & Academies

School and academy weight rooms need safe, correct-spec equipment. Phoenix barbells are sized and rated for educational environments — and built to last a curriculum, not a semester.

🏠
Serious Home Gyms

The bar you buy for a serious home gym should be the same bar used in the best commercial facilities. Phoenix commercial-spec barbells at commercial pricing — no retail markup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Barbell Questions
Answered.

Commercial barbells use higher-tensile shaft steel (typically 190,000+ PSI), needle bearings in the sleeves (not bush bearings), and harder chrome or stainless finish. Consumer-grade bars use lower-tensile steel that develops permanent bend under sustained heavy loading, bush bearings that don't spin correctly for Olympic lifting, and finishes that corrode faster under chalk and sweat. The difference is obvious when you pick one up — and decisive when you're lifting at 90% of 1RM.
Needle bearings. The 20kg and 15kg Olympic barbells use needle bearing sleeve connections, which spin freely and correctly for Olympic weightlifting movements. Bush bearings are a cost-cutting measure that degrades the bar's suitability for cleans, snatches, and jerks. If you're programming Olympic lifting, the bearing type is non-negotiable.
The 20kg and 15kg Phoenix Olympic barbells use IWF-specification 50mm sleeve diameter. This means all standard Olympic plates — including bumper plates — fit correctly. Shaft diameter (28.5mm men's / 25mm women's) matches IWF competition specification.
Yes. Phoenix can quote a complete barbell armoury — 20kg Olympic bars, 15kg women's bars, safety squat bar, hex/trap bar, Swiss/multi-grip bar, and EZ/curl bar — as a single package order. Suitable for commercial gyms, high-performance programs, and elite home builds. Tell Andy your facility type and how many of each you need.
Powerlifting prefers more aggressive knurl for maximum grip retention on deadlift — often with a centre knurl for squat. Olympic lifting prefers a slightly smoother finish, especially around the hand placement zones, to allow the bar to move through the hands during the turnover in clean and snatch. Phoenix commercial Olympic bars use a medium-aggressive multi-directional knurl that works for both applications — appropriate for a general commercial facility that programs both.
The 20kg Phoenix Olympic barbell is rated for 500kg+ dynamic load. The 15kg women's bar is rated 350kg+. Specialty bars (SSB, hex, Swiss) are rated at their respective product specs. In practice, competitive powerlifters and Olympic lifters working at maximum loads will not approach the rated limits of these bars in training.
