Wall mounted or free standing?

Wall mounted anchors to a structural wall and trains from one side. It uses no floor on the rig side, so it suits narrow rooms, PT studios and any gym where the floor is the asset. Free standing stands on 150 x 150 x 10mm base plates anchored to the slab and trains from both sides, which doubles the stations per cell and lets the rig sit wherever the floor plan wants it. Rule of thumb: if you have a solid wall and fewer than eight lifters at once, wall mounted. If you need capacity or you are working in a warehouse, box or outdoor pad, free standing.

How many cells do I need?

One cell is one 1800mm bay, wide enough for a 7ft Olympic bar with room to load and unload. Count your peak simultaneous lifters, not your members. A wall rig gives one lifter per cell, a free standing rig gives two. A PT studio running groups of six wants a free standing 3 cell or a wall 6 cell. A box running classes of twelve wants a free standing 6 cell. Cells bolt on later, so buy for this year and extend when the numbers grow.

3mm or 4mm uprights?

Both are 75 x 75mm structural SHS. 3mm is the stocked commercial standard, already heavier than the 2mm to 2.5mm most competitors run without telling you, and right for commercial gyms, PT studios, schools and premium home gyms. 4mm is the heavy commercial spec, stiffer under dynamic load with less flex on kipping and drops, for universities, professional sporting facilities, Defence and high-traffic boxes. You choose per project.

Standard or wide boy depth?

Depth is the cross-member between the front and back uprights on a free standing rig. Standard is 1080mm, the common commercial choice where floor space matters. Wide boy is 1800mm, for more room between athletes on opposite sides, sled and prowler work through the rig, and longer monkey bar traverses.

Which upright height

2500mm suits most rooms with a 2.7m ceiling. 2750mm and 3000mm give muscle-up and rope clearance under higher ceilings. 3500mm is for warehouse and high-bay facilities. Allow 200mm above the upright for anchors and fixings. Mixed heights are used on staircase and specialist rigs.

Anchoring to the slab

Free standing uprights sit on 150 x 150mm, 10mm thick base plates. We recommend galvanised Dynabolt concrete screws into a sound slab. Wall rigs fix to structural masonry or steel, not plasterboard. Most builders or a capable gym owner can install from our instructions. Watch the install video below.

Indoor and outdoor

Phoenix rigs are coated in OptiGrip polyresin with a UV-stable finish and fitted with 304 stainless hardware, so the same rig goes indoors, on a deck, poolside, onto a Defence pad or into a FIFO camp. No premium outdoor SKU and no warranty asterisk. The time lapse at the top of the page is an outdoor build.

Attachments and compatibility

25mm holes on 25mm centres, numbered up the upright. Every Phoenix attachment, and every Valkyrie attachment from the last decade, bolts straight on. J-hooks, spotting arms, dip bars, multi-grip bars, Shrimp Trawlers, wall ball targets, storage shelves, lat pull and low row kits, belt squat.

Lead time and freight

Standard configurations turn around fastest. Custom heights, mixed cells, colours and specialist builds take longer and are confirmed on the quote. Rigs ship flat-packed Australia-wide with freight quoted up front to your site.

Custom colours and branding

Black is standard. Any RAL colour on request for uprights, chin bars or the whole rig, plus client branding. The teal wall rig, the white seven cell and the blue storage rig on this page are all standard Phoenix steel in custom colour.

Why Phoenix

Better steel. Better hardware. Lower price than the big names.

Most commercial rigs are built to a price point, not a standard. Here is what the brochure leaves out and what we do instead.

Heavier steel, and you choose

Most competitors run 2mm or 2.5mm uprights and do not volunteer it. Phoenix is 3mm or 4mm, your call per project. On a rig taking daily commercial load for ten years that gauge is the difference between solid and flexing.

304 stainless where it counts

J-hooks, spotting arms, bolts: 304 stainless, not zinc-plated mild steel. In coastal, humid or outdoor gyms that is a decade of service instead of corrosion inside two years.

Outdoor rated from the factory

OptiGrip polyresin UV coating, not a powder coat with a marketing label. The indoor rig and the outdoor rig are the same rig. No premium outdoor SKU, no exclusion.

Cheaper than Alphafit and IronEdge

Two premium brands in the Australian market. Phoenix comes in under both with heavier steel and better hardware, because you are buying from the source, not through a distribution chain.

Package pricing, same for everyone

Every configuration above is 38 to 40 percent under its parts total, online or by email. No haggling and no secret trade list. The package price is the deal.

Talk to Andy, not a call centre

Every enquiry comes to Andy Taylor. He tells you what you need, what you do not, and what it costs. Over 1,000 commercial gym configurations designed and installed across Australia and the Pacific.

"I built my first rig system more than a decade ago under the Valkyrie name. Every spec, the steel gauge, the hardware grade, the coating, was chosen because I wanted a rig I would be proud to put my name on."

Common questions

Gym rig FAQ

How much does a commercial gym rig cost in Australia?

Phoenix wall mounted rig packages are $609.00 for 1 cell, $1,289.00 for 2 cells and $1,979.00 for 3 cells. Free standing packages are $1,119.00, $2,389.00 and $3,659.00 for 1, 2 and 3 cells. Prices are ex GST · freight quoted up front. Four cells and up, monkey bar, staircase and boxing rigs are quoted to your floor plan. The package price is the same for everyone, online or by email.

What is the difference between a wall mounted and a free standing rig?

A wall mounted rig anchors to a structural wall and trains from one side, using no floor on the rig side. A free standing rig stands on anchored base plates, trains from both sides and can sit anywhere on the floor. Wall mounted suits narrow rooms and PT studios. Free standing suits boxes, warehouses, outdoor pads and any facility that needs capacity.

What is a cell on a gym rig?

A cell is one 1800mm bay between uprights, wide enough for a full 7ft Olympic barbell with room to load and unload. One cell is one training station on a wall rig and two stations on a free standing rig, one each side. Cell count is how Phoenix rigs are sized and priced.

What is the difference between 3mm and 4mm uprights?

Both are 75 x 75mm structural steel. 3mm is the stocked commercial standard, already heavier than most competitor rigs, and right for the vast majority of gyms. 4mm is the heavy-duty option with more torsional rigidity and less flex under dynamic load, suited to high-traffic boxes, universities, professional sport and Defence. You choose per project.

Can a Phoenix rig go outdoors?

Yes, without modification, upcharge or warranty exclusion. The OptiGrip polyresin UV coating is stable in direct sun and the hardware is 304 stainless steel, so Phoenix rigs run on outdoor pads, decks, poolside, Defence sites and FIFO camps. The time lapse at the top of this page is an outdoor build.

How is a gym rig installed and is installation included?

Rigs arrive flat-packed with full instructions. Free standing uprights sit on 150 x 150 x 10mm base plates anchored with galvanised Dynabolt concrete screws into a sound slab. Wall rigs fix to structural masonry or steel. Most builders, gym fit-out contractors or a capable owner can install from our documentation. Watch the install video on this page. Installation by our crews can be quoted for larger projects.

How high should my ceiling be for a rig?

Add about 200mm to the upright height for anchors and fixings. 2500mm uprights suit a 2.7m ceiling. 2750mm and 3000mm need a higher room and give clearance for muscle-ups and rope climbs. 3500mm is for warehouses and high-bay facilities. Tell Andy your ceiling height and he will pick the upright.

Can I add cells or attachments later?

Yes. The system is bolt-together and every component connects on the same 25mm hole spacing, so you can add bays, chin bars, monkey bar panels, storage and attachments as the gym grows without replacing what you have.

Are Phoenix rigs compatible with Valkyrie attachments?

Yes. Phoenix uses the same 25mm holes on 25mm centres as every Valkyrie rig and rack, so all Valkyrie attachments fit, and Valkyrie rigs can be extended with Phoenix components.

How do Phoenix rigs compare to Alphafit or IronEdge?

Phoenix comes in cheaper than both, with heavier 3mm or 4mm steel, 304 stainless hardware and an outdoor rated coating. You are buying direct from the source rather than through a distribution chain, and that margin comes off the price.

What is the lead time on a rig?

Standard configurations turn around fastest. Custom heights, non-standard cell counts, colours, monkey bar, staircase and boxing rigs take longer and the timeline is confirmed on your quote. Freight is quoted up front to your site, Australia-wide.

Do you supply Defence, schools and government?

Yes. Phoenix supplies ADF facilities, schools, councils and government with itemised quotes, spec sheets and drawings where required. Andy Taylor, ex-3RAR, handles Defence enquiries directly on 0422 046 895.
