"Many gym owners spend hundreds of thousands on equipment and then try to save money on flooring. That's the wrong order. Poor flooring creates noise, equipment movement, floor damage, reduced member comfort, and higher maintenance costs."

The Reality

What Cheap Flooring Actually Costs You

Poor flooring isn't just aesthetic. It's a daily operational problem affecting every person who trains in your facility.

  • Excessive noise — complaints from neighbours and building managers
  • Equipment movement — racks and machines walk on smooth floors under load
  • Floor damage — concrete cracking, landlord disputes at lease end
  • Reduced member comfort — hard surfaces cause fatigue and injury risk
  • Higher maintenance costs — constant repairs and patching
  • Reduced equipment lifespan — vibration accelerates wear on machines and frames
  • Unprofessional appearance — worn surfaces cost you members

Commercial Leases

The Acoustic & Landlord Argument

Shopping centres, industrial units, and mixed-use buildings increasingly require evidence of noise management before a lease is approved.

  • Reduces impact noise — critical in multi-storey buildings
  • Protects the slab — prevents damage claims at lease end
  • Reduces complaint risk from neighbouring tenants
  • Demonstrates professionalism to building managers and councils

  • Photo zone — red or custom colour creates a striking visual backdrop
  • Indoor & covered outdoor — UV-stable, moisture-resistant
  • Easy to clean — sweep and spot-clean

FAQ

Common Questions

How many tiles do I need for my gym?
One tile covers one square metre. Measure your length × width to get your total sqm, then add 10% for cuts and spares. Use our calculator above.
Should I glue down the tiles or leave them loose?
For most home gyms, loose lay is fine. For commercial gyms with sleds or high foot traffic, gluing down the perimeter is recommended.
What is the difference between 8mm, 15mm and 20mm?
8mm is for light cardio only. 15mm is the commercial standard for all training zones. 20mm is for dedicated Olympic lifting platforms. For most gyms, 15mm throughout is the best value solution.
Can I use astro turf indoors?
Yes. Phoenix gym turf is designed specifically for indoor use — UV-stable, moisture-resistant, and built for sleds, athletes, and commercial cleaning.
Does rubber flooring reduce noise for my landlord?
Yes, significantly. 15mm rubber absorbs impact before it transmits through the slab, reducing both airborne and structural noise. Important for shopping centres and mixed-use buildings.
Can Phoenix supply flooring plus all the equipment?
Yes. Flooring, turf, racks, benches, barbells, plates, storage, and machines from a single order. Finance options available for commercial projects.
