What you're usually getting

Most commercial rigs are built to a price point, not a standard.

Here's what most rig suppliers leave out of the brochure. The uprights are 2mm or 2.5mm steel, the cheapest gauge that still looks solid in a showroom. The J-hooks and hardware are zinc-plated mild steel, which looks fine for the first 12 months and starts corroding shortly after. The "powder coat" finish isn't rated for outdoor use, and the warranty exclusion for weather exposure is buried in the fine print.

And the price? You're paying a distributor, who paid an importer, who marked up the factory. The rig that arrives is less than it should be, and costs more than it needs to.

  • 2mm or 2.5mm steel that flexes under real commercial load over time
  • Zinc-plated mild steel hardware that corrodes in humid, coastal or outdoor environments
  • Standard powder coat that fades and chips outdoors, usually within 12–18 months
  • No genuine outdoor rating. "Weather resistant" means different things to different brands
  • Distributor margins built into a price that should be lower
  • One standard configuration. No ability to spec your own gauge, height or layout

"I built my first rig system more than a decade ago under the Valkyrie name. Every spec, the steel gauge, the hardware grade, the coating, was chosen because I wanted a rig I'd be proud to put my name on. Phoenix is that rig. Nothing compromised."

ANDY TAYLOR, PHOENIX STRENGTH — SUNSHINE COAST, QLD

The Phoenix spec

Three specs that separate us from every competitor in Australia.

Structural

3mm or 4mm steel uprights. You choose.

Our 75×75mm uprights come in 3mm or 4mm wall thickness at your discretion. Most competitors run one standard gauge, usually 2mm or 2.5mm, and don't volunteer that information. 3mm for commercial standard. 4mm for heavy-duty, high-traffic or outdoor installs.

Hardware

Full 304 stainless steel hardware throughout.

Every J-hook, every spotting arm, every M12 bolt: 304 stainless. Not zinc-plated. The same grade used in marine and industrial applications. In a coastal gym, a humid facility or an outdoor rig, this is the difference between hardware that lasts a decade and hardware that fails in year two.

Coating

Poly resin UV coating. Genuinely outdoor ready.

Not powder coat with a marketing label. UV-stabilised, more flexible, bonds differently to the steel. The same rig you run indoors goes poolside, onto a deck, into a FIFO camp or onto a defence site without modification, upcharge or warranty asterisk.

The rig system

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

The Phoenix modular rig is built around a 75×75mm upright with 25mm hole spacing, holes numbered 1 through 30+. Every component connects, extends and expands as your gym grows. Start with two bays, add more later. One system that works for a CrossFit box, a commercial gym, a school facility or a defence site.

Why Phoenix

Better spec. Lower price. Straight from the source.

01

Heavier steel than the competition

Most competitors run 2mm or 2.5mm wall thickness and don't advertise it. Phoenix uprights are 3mm or 4mm, and you choose which. On a rig taking daily commercial use for 10+ years, that gauge difference matters structurally.

02

Stainless everywhere it counts

Every bolt, every hook, every arm: 304 stainless steel, not zinc-plated mild steel. In coastal, humid or outdoor environments, that's the difference between a decade of service and corrosion within two years.

03

Genuinely outdoor rated

UV poly resin polymer coating means the indoor rig and the outdoor rig are the same rig. No premium outdoor SKU, no warranty exclusion, no asterisk. If you need it outside, it goes outside.

04

Cheaper than Alphafit and IronEdge

Two of the premium brands in the Australian market. Phoenix comes in under both, with heavier steel, better hardware and a better coating. That's what happens when you cut the middlemen out of the chain.

05

Custom configurations

Not every gym needs a standard 4-upright bay. We'll work with your floor plan, ceiling height, upright heights, bay count and attachment list. Custom takes longer, but you get what your gym actually needs.

06

Talk to Andy, not a call centre

Every enquiry comes directly to me. I'll tell you what you need, what you don't, and what it'll cost. No sales team, no pressure, no follow-up sequence. Just straight answers from someone who's built rigs for over a decade.

How it works

From enquiry to rig on your floor.

01

Tell me about your space

Floor dimensions, ceiling height, number of users, training style, indoor or outdoor. The more detail, the better the recommendation. I'll tell you whether a standard configuration makes sense or whether a custom build is worth the extra lead time.

02

Quote and confirmation

A clear quote: upright count, bay widths, attachment list, freight included. Standard configurations turn around faster. Custom orders take more time but are built exactly to your spec.

03

Delivery to your door

Rigs arrive flat-packed with full installation instructions. Anchor using galvanised Dynabolt concrete screws, straightforward for any builder or capable gym owner. Bay spacing: 1080mm + 1800mm centre span + 1080mm.

04

Done, and backed by Phoenix

The steel, hardware and coating are built to outlast most gyms. If something is ever wrong, you've got my number and I'll sort it personally.

One spec, every attachment

See how the hardware clicks on and off.

This animation shows our PSPX2 half cage, but the hardware is universal. The same J-hooks, spotting arms and utility pegs fit every Phoenix rig and rack in this catalogue: 25mm holes, 25mm spacing, no adapters. Watch it once and you understand the whole system.

Common questions

What people ask before they order.

What's the difference between 3mm and 4mm uprights?
3mm is the standard commercial option, already heavier than most competitor rigs, and more than adequate for the vast majority of gym environments. 4mm is the heavy-duty option, suited to high-traffic commercial facilities, military or government sites, or anywhere the rig will take extreme daily load. You choose which you want, and we advise based on your environment.
Can I put a Phoenix rig outdoors?
Yes, without modification, upcharge or warranty exclusion. The poly resin UV polymer coating is stable under direct UV exposure. Combined with 304 stainless hardware throughout, Phoenix rigs suit outdoor gyms, covered walkways, poolside areas, FIFO camps and coastal environments. We don't sell a separate outdoor version because we don't need one.
How long does a custom rig take?
Standard configurations from stock are faster. Custom configurations, non-standard heights, specific bay counts or mixed attachment specs take longer. Contact us with your requirements and we'll give you an honest lead time upfront.
Is installation included?
Rigs are supplied with full installation instructions. We recommend galvanised Dynabolt concrete screws for anchoring. Most builders or gym fitout contractors can install from our documentation. If you're on the Sunshine Coast, contact us to discuss on-site assistance.
How do Phoenix prices compare to Alphafit or IronEdge?
Phoenix comes in cheaper than both, with heavier steel and better hardware specification. The reason is simple: you're dealing directly with the source, not through a distribution chain. That distributor margin goes back into your pocket.
Can I expand the rig later?
Yes. The modular system is designed to expand: add bays, add attachments, change chin bar configurations. When you're ready to grow, the rig grows with you. Contact us and we'll advise on what connects to your existing setup.

The uprights, up close

Andy talks through the steel.

Filmed on our MTG container gym, which runs custom uprights with stainless steel footings. The tech is the same story across the range: these are the same black uprights on every Phoenix rig and rack. If you want to know what you're actually buying, this is the closest look you'll get without visiting the showroom.

The install

Andy walks through a PSPX2 half cage install.

One build, the whole story: it's the same steel, the same 75×75mm uprights, the same 304 stainless hardware and the same accessories across every rig and rack we make. What you see going together here is exactly what turns up on your floor.
