What Are Micro Bands

The Smallest Band. The Biggest Impact on Your Training.

Micro Bands are short-loop latex bands designed for activation, warm-up, and accessory work. A set of five covers everything from shoulder rehab at 2kg through to accommodating resistance deadlifts at 60kg.

Physios prescribe them. S&C coaches mandate them for warm-up protocol. Elite athletes use them for pull-up assistance and banded squats. If you train seriously, you need a set in your bag.

How to Use Them

Four Reasons Every Training Session Needs a Micro Band

🔥

Warm-Up and Activation

Glute bridges, hip circles, pull-aparts, face pulls, and clamshells are standard warm-up protocol across every serious program. Micro bands make these movements meaningful resistance work rather than just going through the motions.

🏋

Pull-Up Assistance

Loop the band over a pull-up bar and place your knee or foot in the loop. The band reduces effective bodyweight at the bottom of the movement where most athletes fail, building the strength required to get unassisted reps.

Accommodating Resistance

Loop heavy micro bands around a barbell and anchor them to your rack. Resistance increases as you approach lockout, forcing maximum effort through the full range. The same technique powerlifters use to build explosive strength and eliminate sticking points.

Rehab and Physiotherapy

X-Light and Light bands are prescribed by physiotherapists for shoulder, hip, and knee rehabilitation. Light enough to be safe post-injury, specific enough to target the stabiliser muscles that protect joints under load.

Who Uses Micro Bands

Built for Anyone Who Trains With Intent

Strength and Conditioning Coaches

Mandatory warm-up kit across every serious program. Enough resistance variety to cover beginners through to elite athletes. Bulk 10-packs make class management easy.

Home Gym Athletes

Zero storage footprint, very low cost, and genuine training value in every session. Pull-up assistance alone justifies having a set in your home gym.

Physiotherapy and Rehab

X-Light and Light bands are the standard tool for shoulder, hip, and knee rehab protocols. Low enough load to be safe immediately post-injury, specific enough to rebuild stabiliser strength.

CrossFit and Functional Athletes

Pull-up assistance, banded squats, and warm-up circuits are box training staples. Most athletes end up owning all five levels for different movements and loading phases.

Common Questions

Micro Bands FAQ

What is the difference between Micro Bands and Power Bands?
Micro Bands are short-loop bands (41″ circumference) for activation, warm-up, and accessory work — 2 to 35kg resistance. Power Bands are longer, thicker bands (83″ circumference) for heavier resistance — 5 to 85kg — used for heavy pull-up assistance and serious accommodating resistance on barbell lifts. Most serious athletes use both. If you only buy one, start with Micro Bands for warm-up, then add Power Bands once you're training under a bar.
Which resistance level should I start with?
For general warm-up and activation, start with Light (Red, 5–10kg). This covers glute bridges, hip circles, pull-aparts, and banded push-ups. If you're rehabbing an injury, start with X-Light (Yellow, 2–5kg). For pull-up assistance, start with Medium (Black, 10–20kg) or Heavy (Purple, 20–35kg) depending on how much assistance you need. Many athletes buy all four singles at once — at $6–$9 each it's an easy decision.
Are these bands suitable for physiotherapy exercises?
Yes. X-Light and Light levels are regularly used in physiotherapy clinics and prescribed for home exercise programs targeting shoulder, hip, and knee rehabilitation. They provide sufficient resistance to activate stabiliser muscles without loading injured joints. Follow the resistance level your physio prescribes rather than going heavier than directed.
How do I use a Micro Band for pull-up assistance?
Loop the band over the pull-up bar and let it hang down. Place one knee or both feet inside the loop at the bottom. As you lower into the pull-up, the band stretches and provides assistance at the bottom where most athletes struggle. Choose a resistance level that lets you complete 5–8 clean reps — Heavy for beginners who need significant assistance, Medium for athletes close to their first unassisted pull-up.
What is accommodating resistance and do I need it?
Accommodating resistance means the band adds more load as you reach lockout — the mechanically easiest part of the lift. By anchoring heavy micro bands to a power rack and looping them around a barbell, you force maximum effort through the full range of motion. It's a powerlifting technique that builds explosive strength and eliminates sticking points. Not necessary for general training, but highly effective if you compete or want to break through strength plateaus.
Do you offer bulk packs for gyms and coaches?
Yes. We stock 4-packs and 10-packs of X-Light, Light, Medium, and Heavy micro bands. A 10-pack is enough for a full class or team warm-up circuit.
